Katharine is
doing ‘I Have Nothing’. She was
nervous going in with Andrea & David. She
thought that was how it would feel like to be in a studio.
David thinks she has a great future.
Andrea thinks she sounds beautiful & thinks she could sing opera.
Then she & Andrea do a duet. I
know one of my members, sLY, must have been thrilled with her dress as her boobs
were proudly on display. There were
some notes that hurt my ears but it wasn’t that bad.
My husband thought it looked lipsynched.
Uh oh. Her dress came open at
the slit & we saw her panties. Guys
everywhere will be pausing on that. Randy
said he was worried about this week. He
thought it was a good choice of song for her but was way too big for her.
Whitney Houston in her prime is one of the best signers in the world
& that didn’t come close. Paula
said she looks stunning. Paula said
there were pitch problems. When she
doesn’t push her vocals, that’s her zone.
She doesn’t have to oversing cuz she falls flat.
This is a tough song to sing. She
is a star & born to sing. Her
money is her intimate vocals. Simon
said no one understands what Paula is saying.
He said by choosing that song you say you are as good as Whitney &
she isn’t. She went backwards.
You have to be as good as Whitney to sing that song & she’s not.
Ryan said she had some brave moves in that dress.
Kat thanked him. Elliott sat
with Ryan. Elliott said he has been
waiting his whole life to sing on a stage like this.
He sang this song in the auditions & now gets to bring it to the big
stage. He gets to honor Donny
Hathaway’s music. One of his
backup singers is there. David said
it is dangerous to do a song by someone like him cuz it is so stylized & you
have to deliver. Elliott didn’t
get at first the change David wanted him to do.
Then he got it. David wanted
to get him off Donny’s licks. He
thinks Elliott sings well. The song
is called ‘A Song For You’. This
song wasn’t my cup of tea but I thought he did a good job on it.
Randy said he hated the arrangement.
It was way too confusing & overshadowed the vocals.
He were the bomb though. Paula
was in tears & said he moves her. He
is what this show is all about. She
is making an ass out of her self rambling on & crying.
Simon tried to stop laughing. He
said 7 weeks ago he said he is one of the best male vocalists they have ever
had. Tonight was like a vocal master
class. Elliott said he waited a long
time to do that to Paula. Do we see
a cellphone in his future? Kellie also
sat with Ryan. He asked if she is
dedicating the song to anyone special. She
said thanks for reminding her that she doesn’t have anyone [she dumped her
boyfriend before going to the show so she could say she is single.]
She is doing ‘Unchained Melody’ & says she will have a LeeAnn
Rhimes twist. Andrea thinks it is
sweet like her voice. David wanted
her to hit a high note & then she hits one & he said that is the one
& I thought it sounded horrible. He
said it is such a great song but if sung w/out passion it can be the most
boring. Andrea likes her.
David asked him what color hair does she have & he said blonde
[Andrea is blind.] Kellie sits to
start her song & right out of the gate she sucks.
The chorus got even worse. This
girl is way out of her league. Low
notes were horrible too. Just when I
think this girl has had her worst performance she tops it.
She did that high note & that too was just plain bad.
Randy said this is funny. The
2nd week in a row she looks at him & she thinks she butchered it
too right. She said she is scared.
He said this was very strange & wasn’t the right song.
Paula said 6 of you are fantastic. She
doesn’t see her raising the bar each week.
She adores her & Chris chose
‘Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman’. He
thinks it has all the elements of a great love song.
David didn’t think Chris was singing from the heart.
David said Andrea recorded one of the songs laying down.
They had Chris do it. Chris
said it was awkward. He thought it
came out better cuz it forced him to use more of his diaphragm.
David thinks he is great. I
liked it. I think he & Elliott
were the best of the night. Randy
said it was amazing. Paula said love
you. Simon said that was a very good
choice of song. A very sexy song. Well it should
be obvious to everyone.
Kellie should go home.
Who should be in the bottom with her?
For me personally it is Katharine but I think it will be 4/26:
Ryan said they broke another record.
Over 47.5 million votes [since they had more phone lines] were cast.
That is the highest yet for a non-finale vote.
He called the panel emotionally unstable.
He said that Randy was the only sane one.
He said there were a lot of calls last night saying Simon was unfair.
Simon said it was only to one person & that was Katharine.
Mommy Dearest stood to applaud. He
said he watched it back & they were a bit unfair.
Randy said a little harsh. Paula
said she’s never harsh. Simon
asked if he & Paula are talking yet. Ryan
said they are. Ryan said Simon’s
maturity level hit an all time low. I
think that Ryan’s pompousness has. He
is the ultimate jerk. They were
striking a pose after the clip show & Ryan said they are one dysfunctional
family. The
commercial was to ‘Call Me’ & they were looking for a lost dog.
I didn’t like the mix. It
was too low or something. The
tour kicks off July 6th. David
Foster & Andrea Bocelli were next. Andrea
said he thought the Idols were very well. He
said it is a problem for him to sing after them.
Ryan said David was tough on them. David
said you have to be great, you can’t just be good.
They did ‘Because We Believe’ a song they wrote along with David’s
daughter. I surfed the ‘Net.
This is SO not my thing. While
I am waiting, they are sitting in this order:
Katharine – Elliott – Kellie – Ryan
pointed out Lisa Tucker in the audience & he talked to her too.
This was to promote her on ‘The O.C.’ tomorrow. Ryan
breaks them down into 3 groups of 2. They
were: Katherine & Chris, Elliott & Taylor and Kellie & Paris.
One group is Top 2 & one is the Bottom 2.
The other obviously is in the middle.
Elliott & Taylor were safe. I
don’t know if Ryan said they were the Top but you would ASSUME that is what
they meant. So one of the 2 to never
be in the bottom, will finally be there tonight.
Kellie
is wearing hooker blue eyeshadow. One
of the remaining groups got the highest & it was Chris & Katharine!
Total psyche out. So Kellie
is finally bottom 2. Paula said she
said before, 6 great people. She
thought Kellie
doesn’t think this has changed her. She
is glad to be here but knows she won’t be there much longer cuz a commercial
is coming. She thanks all the Kellie
fans for making her dreams come true. She
thanks God & AI, the crew. She
is sad to be going… & they cut it off & went to ‘Unan1mous’.
No word on next week’s theme or guest. 5/2:
They will sing 2 songs each tonight.
One from the current Billboard charts & the other from the year they
were born. Elliott began the night
with ‘On Broadway’. He said he
had a habit as a kid of biting his nails & still does.
I didn’t like it cuz it just showcased his vibrato & I just don’t
like that. When he isn’t doing
that, I like it. He had a lot of
enthusiasm this week & that was good. Randy
said it started a little rough but got it together in the middle & was very
nice. Paula agreed & said he has
such a rich voice. Simon said it
wasn’t his best performance. He
thought it was a bit disjointed & is very lucky he has 2 songs tonight. Ryan
sat down with Chris
chose ‘Renegade’. He said he was
destined at a young age to be a musician. He
always wanted to be in the spotlight. Good
thing the producers give him that special lighting then.
He walked in the audience like Katharine
also sat with Ryan. He said they
have to talk about the wardrobe malfunction last week when she lost a button.
She said she didn’t know & hoped she didn’t offend anyone.
She said she didn’t even know. Ryan joked about people replaying that.
She laughed & said she is wearing a trashbag this time.
She said she didn’t make a cry when she was born.
She has always been serious. Now
she chooses a profession that is loud. She
did ‘Against All Odds’. Started
really bad. Her oohs were really bad
& then she got off the beat. This
is a really pretty song & I thought maybe she could do it justice but she
didn’t. Then she got louder &
screechier. I thought that was
really bad. Randy said she looks
amazing. He doesn’t know if the
key was right. It got OK at the end.
Maybe the key was too low. Paula
said she looks stunning. Not her
favorite performance from her. Simon
said he got it completely wrong last week & apologized.
Tonight was a mess in parts & the song got away from her but she gets
2 songs & is a lucky girl. Ryan
asked when she was unsure. She said
she wasn’t sure if she could hear herself at the beginning.
She said when you’re nervous anything is difficult.
Simon said something & we didn’t hear.
Simon gets a mic & says if he said that it was one of her best
performances it wasn’t. That was
just a weird moment. Now
we are on to the current Billboard charts. Their
Encores cd will be out May 9th. Elliot
chose ‘Home’. He was sitting on
a stool. I think that is
preferential treatment. He should
have to stand. Can you tell I am
sick of hearing how Chris is being pimped? I
thought this song was really boring. I
liked him better on this than the other song though cuz his vibrato wasn’t in
your face. So his vocal was good,
song sucked. Elliott & Ryan ran
around the stage together. Paula
giggled about it. Randy liked seeing
the tender side of him & said it was a nice choice.
Paula said they got to hear & feel the richness of his voice.
Simon said he wasn’t sure he would pick a lyric saying he wants to go
home tonight. He is worried about
that song that it doesn’t have enough of a hook or wow factor. Elliott
said he isn’t ready to go home. Ryan thought it was an AI first & that
Elliott didn’t want to hear what any of the judges had to say.
Elliott said he knew he had to go over to the chair by Ryan at some
point. Tickets
for the tour go on sale May 19th.
Chris chose ‘I Dare You’. I
don’t like the song but loved his vocal once again.
Randy said he can already tell his voice is starting to give out &
his voice was high. He didn’t love
the song. Paula said it wasn’t her
favorite but she loves him. Simon
didn’t like it & said Chris’ voice was going.
Chris said it has been a long day. Simon
said he had a great first song so he isn’t going anywhere.
Chris told Ryan that is like the 5th time he had done the song
today so he was maybe pushing it. He
has sung more than he probably has in his life & needs to pace himself. Katharine
chose ‘Black Horse & the Cherry Tree’.
She was sitting on the seal. Oh
no. She has 2 special instruments
out there that go with the song so she must being shoved down our throats.
Kat kinda dances while still on her knees & it annoyed my husband.
I didn’t like her again. She
sounded too high for this song. She
looked like she had fun though. Randy
said this is a wild show. He said
that is more of the Kat he knows & loves.
Paula loved the choreography & the intimacy.
Kat said the 2 guys on stage w/ her are awesome.
Kat doesn’t have shoes on & Randy pointed out her painted toes.
Simon said it was different & younger & showed more personality
& was a good choice. Ryan asked the guy what that instrument was called.
A box drum. I
think Katharine was by far the worst of the night & she should go if you
base it on that. But Ryan
asked Randy how he felt about the show. He
said it was wild. Paula said
different & interesting. She
said some were good. Simon thought
it was a bit erratic. He said some
good & some not so good. He said
advice for next week is to pick great songs.
Ryan asked Simon to rate himself tonight & he said 9.5. 5/3:
Ryan said there were almost 45.5 million votes last night.
Paula said that is awesome. Randy
booed Simon’s introduction. Ryan
asked Chris how he is feeling. He
said he is good & doing well. Ryan
asked Ryan
reminded us the tour will be in 40 cities & go on sale May 19th.
The kids sang ‘Together We Are One”.
Chris sang lead first. He
actually hit a high note this time. The
commercial was to ‘Hollywood Swinging’. They
are driving down the wacky streets of L.A & seeing the different characters.
& when they get out of the car they were wearing weird outfits too.
Ryan said he can never wear shoulder pads again after seeing Ryan
lies & says the buzz is that Paula was the best of the judges last night.
Randy said Simon gave himself a 9.5 but it was really a 6.
Simon said he just goes by the official polls that 78% agree with him.
He said he doesn’t make the polls up.
He thought 78% was low. They
are sitting in this order: Taylor
– Chris – Ryan
said there is a private jet awaiting to whisk them away to Ryan
tortures Elliott & Katharine & makes them wait through another break
before finding out which one will join Paris
& Elliott hug while Ryan says they love both of them.
Elliott was safe & 5/9:
This week’s theme is Elvis Presley.
The kids got to fly on a private jet to Chris
was first to sit with Ryan tonight. Ryan
asked him about his fanclub names & what gifts he gets.
He got sunscreen for his head. He
said there is a debate going on & to answer the question it is boxer briefs.
In his clip he said he is singing ‘Suspicious Minds’ & is his all
time favorite Elvis song. He said
Tommy was excellent & a very genuine guy with sincere comments.
Tommy said Chris tends to let it go & needs to dig in & that will
make him shine. Tommy likes his
vocal sound & said it is incredible & would be amazing on record.
Chris was wearing sunglasses on the stage.
I always hate that. But I
know Elvis did it so I will give him a pass.
He pulled them off & got cheesy with the camera but I still love his
vocals. Randy said it was a nice
kind of tender moment but not his best. Paula
said you forget how great that song is until Chris sings it.
See you in the finals. Simon
said sunglasses aside, that worked. Elliott
said it was an honor to see Katharine
chose “Hound Dog’ & added a twist. She
wasn’t sure she wanted to do it cuz it is a rocker song.
Tommy said it is a signature Elvis song.
He was very impressed with her & said she is a better singer than he
has heard on the show. Her range is
incredible & scored big with him. Kat
started up on the platform behind the judges.
She had shoes on this time. She
put a lot of energy into the song & mugged to the camera a lot.
She got herself out of breath though with all her twirling.
& when she yelled there was that screechiness I don’t like.
Randy said she had a good time with that but what happened in the middle.
She said she dropped a lyric. Paula
said that was good that she worked the choreography at that point.
Simon said it reminded him of holding auditions across I
think Chris was the best that round & Elliott was the worst.
If he didn’t do the vibrato then Kat would have been bottom for me.
Now
Tommy
told Chris he loves everything he has been doing & is curious to what he has
picked for the 2nd song. He
chose ‘A Little Less Conversation’. Tommy
said it is a difficult one. He told
him to rehearse in front of the mirror & pay attention to the lyrics.
He thinks Chris can rise to the occasion & is very impressive.
He walked over to that platform behind the judges.
It didn’t have as much energy as I would like from him.
I don’t know if it is cuz his voice can’t handle doing too much or if
he was trying to be calmer for his detractors.
He got a growl in at the end though.
Randy said that was the right key for him & brought the rocker edge
at the end& was hot. Paula said
she adores him & picked a song that showed more personality.
Simon thought the 1st song was better & was flat until the
end. It was OK.
Wasn’t as good as the first. Ryan
asked Chris if he was holding back. Chris
said that is the way it was written & was staying true to Elvis. Elliott
said working with Tommy on ‘Trouble’ was great.
He said it was a great bluesy song. Tommy
said he is a laid back kid & real. He
tells Elliott Elvis was about attitude. Tomy
thinks he has a raspy style & will pull it off well.
I liked this better than the first cuz he was just singing.
The yodeling wasn’t as prominent. I
didn’t like the strobe light effect though.
Randy said something was going on tonight.
He said that was his best performance ever.
Paula said she reserves the right to change her mind & echoed Randy.
Simon said he has to hand it to him he came out fighting & showed
personality & deserves to go through to the next round.
Ryan asked Elliott if he saw Paula’s moves while he was singing &
feels obligated to give her a dollar. Simon
said it is a family show. Ryan
shushed Simon. Kat
chose ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’. She
believes it is one of Elvis’ best romantic ballads.
Tommy said Elvis really got into the lyrics so she has to emote &
really project. He said the vocals
come so easy to her so she has to pay attention to the lyrics.
He thinks she has a very special voice & a gleam in her eye.
It was just blah to me. Something
was missing & I don’t know what. Randy
said that was better than her 1st song but she ran out of air at the
end & was pitchy. Paula enjoyed
watching her dance & let loose on the first one.
Simon said this hasn’t been one of her best nights.
It started beautifully. He
wanted apple pie but got apple pie w/ a gallon of cream on top.
Paula didn’t get his analogy even though it made perfect sense. So
the 2nd round I would say Elliott was the best & Katharine was
the worst. But I think Elliott’s
first song was the worst of the night. But
he had a really good one for the 2nd one while Kat gave 2 so-so
performances so my pick would be for her to go tomorrow. 5/10:
They sat in this order: Taylor
– Chris – Elliott – Katharine. Ryan
said the Elvis songs were tough for the contestants but they had fun.
He said something about Kat’s performance was anything but flat.
No idea if he was talking about her enthusiasm or her boobies.
Paula was in Simon’s lap after the clips.
I don’t know if she was back to being a stripper like Ryan said last
night & was giving him a lap dance or what. The
commercial was to ‘Wonderful World’ & Kat was driving a hybrid &
gets home & the garage is full of junk.
The guys clean it out. Elliott struggles with a power washer.
More
clips of them visiting Then
it was time for an Elvis medley. They
started with ‘Don’t Be Cruel’ with Elliott on lead.
The other 3 sang back up & it was cute.
Then they moved into ‘Blue Suede Shoes’.
Rebecca
Romjin & Jerry O’Connell were in the audience & Ryan talked to them.
Ryan pointed out she wasn’t wearing her ring & she said she just
came from work. Ryan wanted to talk
about X-Men. She said she is so
nervous for them & freaking out. He
asked her who she loves the most & she said she can’t pick but
congratulates them for getting this far & said Taylor rocked the house with
‘Jailhouse Rock’ & asked him to do it again.
Ryan asked Nigel if there’s time & he said yeah so Ryan
had Taylor
& Elliott were safe. They are
obviously the Top 2. Paula was on
her feet. Simon said Kat should go
based on last night. Ryan said a lot
of people predicted both of them in the finale & that Chris could be the
next AI. CHRIS was out.
He was shocked. Paula put her
head in her lap. Kat looked shocked
too. Chris said he is a little
shocked. I am bummed cuz he is the
only one I really liked but oh well. Except
for Kelly, no one I like ever gets to the end of this show so I am used to it.
& I know this will make a lot of freaky fans happy to be rid of him
& I was sick of hearing them whine. But
I am sure they will find new things to whine about.
Paula was in tears. Chris got
to sing ‘Suspicious Minds’. 5/16:
We are down to the Final 3. Tonight
is all about choices. The finalists,
the judges & Clive Davis’. Roseanne
was in the audience. Paula looked
stoned right from the beginning. So
it should be an interesting show. Their
first song will be the ones Clive Davis picked for them.
He was not at the judges table but was in the audience. Elliott
was first. Clive chose ‘Open
Arms’. Clive told him not to go
over the top but show his soul. He
thinks the song will help him show the power of his voice.
Elliott was thankful to meet him & said it was honored.
He was looking forward to doing projects with Clive in the future.
I hate this guy’s vibrato so this could be very bad.
& he got on my nerves right away.
If he just didn’t do that I would love this guy.
But I just can’t with that crap. Randy
had to remind us that he was in Journey for awhile.
He said when he first heard that choice he wasn’t sure.
He thought Elliott had trouble with the chorus but worked it out &
needs to take chances. Paula said he
is in excellent voice tonight & thinks he did a great job.
Simon said it was a good choice of song but not a great vocal.
He was stiff & needs to loosen up & think he can make it to the
finals. Elliott told Ryan he
believed more than ever that he will. Katharine
was next. Clive chose ‘I Believe I
Can Fly’. He wanted something to
give her an opportunity to dig down deep in a modern day classic.
She has to make it her own & soar.
He said she has a great voice & big range.
He wants when they record together to have a Katharine McPhee sound.
He thinks she will command the stage.
She was really mugging to the camera.
I didn’t like her over the top runs.
My husband loves her but hated this.
Like Elliott’s vibrato, if she didn’t do those runs or whatever you
call it, it would be a lot better. Randy
said she looks amazing. His problem
is she wants to be that kind of singer but doesn’t think she is just yet.
It wasn’t right for her. Paula
said that color is gorgeous. Paula
stumbles & someone yells Kat is incredible.
Kat said they have been hard on her these last few weeks.
Randy said but that song. Kat
said she didn’t pick it. Simon
told Randy he was being unfair. She
didn’t choose the song. It is
recognizable song & she had some bad notes at the end.
Randy says it is a great song after Ryan says Randy is being
disrespectful to their guest. Clive
chose ‘Dancing in the Dark’ for Next
round was the judges’ choice. But
first we saw a clip of Elliott at his hometown celebration where his mayor read
a fax from Paula saying her choice is ‘What You Won’t Do For Love’.
She said she chose it cuz Elliott is full of love & that is what he
is about. He is the funkiest most
soulful whiteboy & can get into this song.
She said it suits his voice & is in the right range for him.
I didn’t know the song from the title but as soon as he sang the first
line I recognized it. Paula was up
& dancing with her eyes glazed over. I
thought he was better on this one than his first but nothing fantastic.
Randy said it wasn’t his best performance cuz he was a little sharp
most of the song. Paula disagreed.
She said this is the kind of artist that he is.
He has an amazing R&B tone & he pierces to the heart.
Simon said it wasn’t the best song in the world but the style suited
him & he thought he sang it pretty good.
I think I saw the band Fuel in the audience. Next
was Katharine’s mayor saying Simon chose ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’.
Simon said he knew from the very first day he met Kat that this song was
the perfect song for her. He said
they can have the moment they have been waiting for tonight with this.
She was sitting on the seal again so she loses me before she even opens
her mouth. She had shoes on though.
She was acapella for the first 20 seconds.
That was pretty but I can’t get over the cheese factor.
She pulled her ear monitor out so I don’t know if she was having
trouble hearing herself or what. More
mugging to the camera. She got off
the beat at one point after a long run. Maybe
she was “making it her own” but it was just weird to me.
Some of it was pretty but like Elliott, nothing fantastic.
Not the moment Simon predicted but I am sure he will think it was.
Randy said finally this is what he has been waiting for.
This was the best vocal of the season.
He said it was brilliant. Paula
told her to soak in the moment. Her
magic is when she doesn’t go overboard. Simon
said he is very happy for her cuz it proves the point that she does have to lay
in too much. That was the single
best performance of the competition to date.
I disagree completely. It was
OK in spots & really boring in others. Their
picks are all that’s left with less than 20 minutes to go in the show.
Elliott sat with Ryan & said he chose ‘I Believe to My Soul’.
He hasn’t done a Ray Charles song before on the show but he is going to
do the Donnie Hathaway version. Big
surprise. The vibrato came out
strong on this one & I lose all interest.
It’s like figure skating & they fall.
I really like it but then he does that & I have to take major marks
off. His voice cracked at one point
too. Could have been great.
But was just meh. Randy said
he doesn’t believe this was the perfect song for him but he can definitely
sing & will do well no matter what it is.
Paula agrees cuz people don’t know the song & can’t connect with
it. She said it is very difficult to
sing that kind of song but he nails it. Simon
said his songs won’t carry him through to next week.
He is a great guy & singer & whatever happens he will make his
Mum very proud for what he has achieved in this competition. Katharine
also got to sit with Ryan & she told him she chose ‘I Ain’t Got Nothing
But The Blues’. She didn’t want
to be compared to anyone in the industry today.
I got the impression she was taking a shot at people with that statement
& she came off as a snob. She
came off so High School musical. I
didn’t like it at all. Randy said
it was OK but she is comparing herself to Ella & he doesn’t know.
Paula said her magic was the 2nd song.
She still did a great job. Simon
said overall she had a great night. 5
steps forward, 1 step back. He
wishes they could have reversed the order & ended on the 2nd
song. It was OK. Well
I would say 5/17:
Ace & Kellie were there together.
Kellie had a short ‘do. Ryan
wondered if they were a couple. He
said they had over 50 million votes last night.
He said the margin between them is very close.
They sat in this order: Taylor
– Katharine – Elliott. The
Ford Commercial had then dressed as old people & they sang “Young at
Heart”. It was funny.
Ryan joked that he didn’t know Simon was having a party.
Ryan really needs a shave. The
Idols got to meet Hugh Jackman & Rebecca Romijn after the show last week.
They got a sneak peek at the new X-Men movie that comes out next week.
Katharine
was next. She only had to go 10
minutes. She said it was just over
the hill. Her first stop was ‘Good
Day L.A.’ She was born &
raised in L.A & says she doesn’t get the small town support but does still
get support. Ugh.
This show used to be on here & was cancelled & I have been
thrilled to not have to see Jillian Barberie.
She went to a radio show next. Then
she took a helicopter over the Ryan
said Elliott did one of Gavin DeGraw’s songs like a month ago & he was in
the audience tonight. Elliott said Ryan
pimps the ‘Encores’ cd that comes out on Tuesday.
Then we got a clip of all the things the show has produced.
They showed Kelly doing ‘Since U Been Gone’ & you could hear the
studio audience going crazy. Then
they introduced Clive Davis & he joined Ryan on the stage.
The Idols gave him a plaque celebrating the 33 million sales of AI
albums. Clive said it began as a TV
show & skeptics thought a real artist couldn’t emerge & they proved
them wrong. The very first album
from Kelly sold over 3 million copies & her 2nd showed she is
here to stay in a big way. Her
current album has sold over 10 million worldwide.
Even in some countries that never showed AI it has gone 7 times platinum.
She has won 2 Grammy’s. Rupert
had a #1 R&B single & Clay had a #1 single & sold over 3 million.
Fantasia sold over 2 million & got 4 Grammy nominations.
Bo is well on his way to platinum. Carrie
has had a #1 country record & sold over 3 million.
He thanked the show & the fans for helping find this talent &
revitalize pop music. He also
thanked the record company & pulled a Michael Jackson & thanked them for
this award. It’s just a plaque
dude. They
showed the number 33.06% on the big screen.
The next one was 33.26%. The
last one was 33.68%. Kat’s mouth
was open. 5/23:
They will sing 3 songs & have 3 numbers to call & there will be 4
hours to call instead of 2. First
they looked back on each contestant. The
Top 2 are in the audience & Ryan hugged Chris.
Then he asked Kat’s Dad if there are any tears yet & he said not
yet but it’s early. Kat sang
‘Black Horse & the Cherry Tree’. She
was on her feet this time & wearing shoes.
She had her box drums though. She
was good at the beginning & then was her usual annoying self with the
melisma. I didn’t like her talking
through part of the song either. Randy
said she finally looks like she was having fun with the song.
He doesn’t know if it is cuz he heard it before so it wasn’t super
exciting but he thought she sounded better this time.
Paula babbled something & said she knows there is more & better
to come. Simon said he gives it a
good with a small g. He said the
occasion tonight is bigger than that song & this is what he calls a warm up.
Kat told she enjoyed performing on the ground & is in the Top[ 40 of
today so she could show Katharine
then did ‘Over the Rainbow’. This
time she was on the floor. I think
that is so lame & contrived but I guess if ain’t broke…
She pulled her in-ear out when she was done with the acapella part.
I thought the vocal started OK & then she gets to the middle & is
screechy. I was bored again.
Randy said when he saw she was doing that song he thought anti-climactic
but she worked it out. Paula said it
is no mistake it is God given talent that she possesses & every Father feels
her Father’s tears & makes every girl proud that aspires to be her.
Simon said she was slaughtered Round 1 & came back w/ what he
believes was her best performance of the competition so far & she is back in
the game. Ryan asked her what it
feels like. She said great cuz her
ear monitor went out & she still started on the right key.
After
the break it was a clip of Kat’s parents talking about how Kat has always been
singing. Oh I see.
It was the Coca Cola moment. Kat
says she has always dreamed of doing this & her Moms says it was what she
was born to do. Kat now does her
single, ‘My Destiny’. She came
out into smoke. I hate smoke
machines. My husband band played a
show once & the band once couldn’t control it & it was just bad.
She was the same as always for me, pretty in parts & bad in others.
Her talking parts were bad & the low notes made me cringe.
The song itself was cheesy but I would expect nothing less from AI.
A choir comes out just as she screeches again.
Te graphic said Kat’s family & friends & it was Tori Spelling
standing up & clapping. Randy
said she looked amazing & sounded really good but he did not love the song.
Paula said that is not her fault cuz she is brilliant.
Randy said the song is just average.
Simon said he is sorry but she went from brilliant to quite good in one
song & she is a great potential artist & is delighted she is in the
competition & for everyone who is voting to remember the 2nd
song. Ryan said the song not the
singer? Randy said she was better
than the song. Simon said he said it
all. Kat seemed to be in tears from
right after she finished the song. Ryan
said she can’t breathe in that dress & she agreed.
She thanked all her fans. I
say this all the time, music is art & subjective.
IMO Taylor is hands down the winner.
I prefer what he does to what Kat does.
I don’t think she would be that great of a pop artist but think she
would be great on Broadway or just plain acting. Daniel
Powter closed the show with a live performance of ‘Bad Day’.
5/24
Carrie
Underwood walked out on stage & sang ‘We Made it Through the Rain’ with
Katharine & Taylor.
All the Idols walked out too & they were all in white.
Then the choir joined them & were all in black.
Next was a
clip package of Randy-isms from throughout the season before Randy was
introduced to the crowd. Ryan said
Paula was the compassionate one & they played Whitney’s ‘So Emotional’
over her video package. Then Ryan
said “the ego has landed” to introduce Simon’s clips.
Then we went
to their hometowns. Becky &
Jessie O’Donnahue were in Chris got to
perform with ‘Live’. They did
their new single ‘Mystery’. The
song did nothing for me but I am not a big fan of this band.
Ryan said when
we first met Kellie she was a rollerskating waitress & then talked about her
mispronouncing calamari. So they
sent her to Wolfgang Puck for a lesson in food.
She didn’t want food that had eyeballs & was looking at her.
He had her read the menu & surprise!
She mispronounced escargot. She
didn’t want to eat it. I don’t
blame her for that one. He forced
her to eat it & she gagged & spit it into her napkin & joked that it
was really good. They showed the
napkin on the ground behind her with the snail in it.
She then taught him how to say Albermarle. Katharine got
to sing with Meatloaf. They did
‘It’s All Coming Back to Me Now’. I
am not a Meatloaf fan for the same reason I don’t like Kat.
Way over the top & over dramatic.
Meatloaf was horrible right off the bat.
I thought Kat actually sounded pretty good though but maybe it was just
cuz Meatloaf was so bad. You could
barely even recognize the song. Just
very badly done. Ryan talked
about how hard they have worked going through all the auditions & then
don’t win anything at awards shows so they are giving them to themselves &
called them the “Golden Idols”. Brought
to you by Coca Cola & Ford. First
category was outstanding female vocal. Then
showed Sierra Johnson as the first nominee & her horrible audition.
Then Crystal the girl with the suntan & her bad ‘Lady Marmalade’.
Princess said she sounds like Aretha Franklin & then butchered
‘That’s What Friends are For’. Is
this a segue since Dionne Warwick is performing that tonight?
Princess won & Ryan said she wasn’t there to accept her award cuz
she isn’t crazy enough to take more abuse. Next was male
vocal & I missed the 1st guy’s name cuz my husband was being
obnoxious but he butchered Alicia Keys. Next
was Dereck doing ‘Shout’. Then
was that crazy Dave guy who spazzed out after getting his golden ticket.
Of course Dave won & Ryan said he wasn’t there either but he came
running out in barefeet & went nuts. Back to Kellie
& Puck. Next up was lobster.
She freaked out cuz it was looking at her.
Again, I don’t blame her. He
tells her they have to be alive or they wouldn’t taste good.
She jabs the live lobster with a fork & Puck picks it up & scares
her with it. The Top Guy
Finalists sang ‘Takin Care of Business’.
They were all in black. The Ford
commercial was to ‘Don’t Stop’ with all of the Top 12.
It was clips from all the commercials they did this season while Taylor
& Kat were at a Drive-In watching it. Kat &
Taylor were all in black on the stage with Ryan.
Ryan then gave Kat a convertible Mustang & then gave one to Proudest
Family Idol award. Elliott’s
Mother’s return to Carrie
Underwood sang her new song ‘Don’t Forget to Remember Me’.
I am not a country fan or a fan of hers so there is nothing for me to say
here. She & her band were all in
black & she looked beautiful. Next award was
the Randy Jackson Award for Public Speaking.
Rhonetta won. She was that
idiot that was swearing on the street after getting the boot.
Ryan said she is working tonight & why she wasn’t there.
They went via satellite to her work & it was her on the street in the
same too small clothes holding the award. She
was swearing & so on. Kat started
‘Man, I Feel Like a Woman’ & was joined by the rest of the girls from
the Top 12. They were all in black.
Then The next
Golden Idol was for best impersonation. The
Ryan said they
are paying homage to Burt Bacharach so he takes the stage & bows before
sitting at the piano. He plays
‘What the World Needs Now’ & Best Male
Bonding award. Ace & Chris hug
when Ace made it to Top 12. Ryan
& Taylor laying on the seal. The
Brokenote Cowboys. Of course the
cowboys won. They came out &
sang ‘Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys’.
Chipmunks. Ryan said
there aren’t any more surprises & they are done with the guest stars &
will now move into the results. There
is just 10 minutes left of the show. &
then Prince comes out & performs a couple songs from his new album.
I forgot that
Taylor & Katharine were doing ‘I Had The Time of My Life’.
I didn’t like Ryan said now
it is the moment of truth. He said
there was 63.4 million votes last night & is more than any president has
gotten. Um.
If I could vote over & over as well as everyone else the votes would
be much higher for that. Taylor
& Kat hold hands as they wait.
